Broken??!

So a few nights ago Leda happily ran outside the front door to hop in Uncle Rocky's car to go have a playdate at Aunt Kiki's house. Not 30 seconds later, Spencer comes running inside to tell me that Leda tripped and she's screaming.

Leda hurt and screaming is NOT abnormal. I never come running when she cries because, well...she cries over most everything. Not kidding. Aaron and I have talked at length about how we need to toughen her up. And it's a fine line: you want to give them sympathy when they're hurting of course...but where do you draw the line when one seems to cry over most everything? These were my inner thoughts as I walked outside to her aide. Now I'll feel guilty for those thoughts. Sigh.

Anyway, she was hurting, Rocky & I tried to convince her to "walk it off" and we honestly figured it was a sprain. How disappointing for her because the highly anticipated First Grade field trip, on a bus, to Hogle Zoo was the very next day. She was heartbroken. So as the "sprained ankle" began to swell and we iced it all night, I told her over and over we'd make it a great day the next day. Which meant we'd hit a matinee & have popcorn. She seemed okay with that.

So the next morning, I noticed she still wouldn't put pressure on her ankle. And my friend Heather (an Athletic occupational therapist) offered to come over and wrap her ankle up tight for me. Yay for awesome next door neighbors! Upon inspection, she did a few tests and recommended I go get an x-ray. So after our super fun matinee date (Mirror, Mirror) to make up for the lost zoo trip, we hit up the urgent care to see our other friend Mike. I have friends in high places! And boy has it come in handy. We've been in good care.

Mike ran a few X-rays for us. Chase was his eager assistant.

Then we got to take a closer look! Where it was determined it was a break. She has a Salter Harris 2 fracture across her growth plate in her ankle. All from tripping over a scooter that was laying down in the grass. Really? Ack!

After confirming this news with two other docs, & then talking to Aaron at work, we opted to fit her for a boot with crutches. We return in 10 days to re-X-ray to make sure it's healing. If it looks good, it'll be a boot for another 4 weeks. If it isn't healing up right, a cast it is! Leda has already informed me it'll be pink. But we are ALL crossing our fingers that a cast won't happen.

Here is her new "ride" up and down stairs when Daddy is home....

And I know I'm her mother, but she makes crutches look cute! Too bad they kill her arms and she's in tears using them. But we're pushing through.

Things could always be worse, and this too shall pass! Today after our first full day on crutches and me tending to her, she was SO sweet and created this little gift for me. A handmade card and a bunch of random things she'd collected from my craft basket. Made me smile!

Love this little drama mama. Who had EVERY right to be dramatic! I'm kicking myself for minimizing her pain :(

The McClure boys

My very first babysitting job was given to me by Rick & Lezlie McClure. Their firstborn David was such a cute little guy....and I LOVED babysitting for them. Then they went on to have two more adorable sons: Matthew & Jared. And then my sister & I had three cute McClure boys to babysit for. This family moved away from California to Oregon years ago, but we've always managed to keep in touch.

My mom was a preschool teacher to all these boys, we watched David for them when they went to the hospital to have Matty, and Carrie came home from the hospital with Lezlie to watch a newborn baby Jared so Lezlie could rest. Such good memories!

And today we got to meet up with them for lunch :

me, Matthew, David, My mom, Carrie, my Dad, Lezlie, then Rick, Jared & David's wife Bekah

Today that little boy---my first babysit-ee David, graduated from BYU. He GRADUATED from COLLEGE. His wife did also. That makes me old, right? I used to change his diapers! Ack! And now he's served a mission in China, married a gorgeous gal Bekah, graduated from BYU and he's off to graduate school in Michigan. Craziness.

Here is me and my sister with our three favorite boys from our babysitting days.

In order: Matthew (home from a mission in Taiwan) David, & Jared who is off to serve a mission to Russia in three months)

I'm so proud of these boys, what they've done so far with their life. What accomplishments! And what a great day with old friends!

The Jazz Game

Aaron scored us some Jazz tickets (in the nosebleeds, but still!) so we went this past Monday night to watch the Jazz play the Dallas Mavericks. It was a first for all of us that went, but Spencer was especially tickled to be going!

Posing with his new Jazz hat

Glad to have Grandpa come along, he loves basketball.

Had to have treats, of course.

And even though this game was jam packed full of excitement, Spencer is still just a 9-year old kid sitting in the nosebleeds. So he did bide his time with a little "draw something" to his grandma on my iphone ;)

The half time show was AMAZING. This woman, on a unicycle kept tossing ceramic bowls from her ankle up to the top of her head---all while peddling with one foot and balancing the existing bowls on top of her head. By the end of the routine she had 21 bowls up there. TWENTY-ONE! It really was so cool. Too bad we couldn't get a better pic, but this will have to do so we can remember it.

Um, what an exciting game. We were definitely spoiled with it being our first time there. TRIPLE overtime, baby!

And some "fans" didn't care to stay til the bitter end...but we didn't mind. It allowed us to stretch out and get comfy!

The Mav fans behind us gave Spencer the Jazz blanket they had won prior to us getting to our seats. Spencer was SOO excited. Ah, the little things.

And the Jazz bear was SO entertaining for Spencer. He kept giggling at all he'd do. Especially when he slid down the stairs on a sled and out onto the court. Too bad I couldn't get that on film, but he did some crazy stuff! Including this move:
And then the Jazz won 123-121...finally! I'd never seen a triple overtime, nor been there to witness it. So exciting...and worth not getting home til after midnight on a school night.

Of course I made the crew pose for a pic on our long walk back to the car. And Aaron always knows how to get me: ruin the pic! As payback, I'm posting it anyway. It was such a nice night! Not cold at all, and it was fun walking the 8 or so blocks holding hands with my boys.

Then it was home, but not without a stop to Wendy's first for a shake. Um, spoiled much Spencer? And then it was off to bed for this little Jazz fan in the making...

Oh and while we were away, Grandma & the other kiddos got to play...eating at their favorite place: The Spaghetti Factory with the added bonus of a club car. So they definately weren't neglected.

Thanks to Grandma for watching them so we could all go and enjoy a night. Win/win all around that night...even for the Jazz!
