Spencer turns "9"

His last year of single digits. HOW is that?

Spencer is such a good kid. And I'm not just saying that because it's in writing for all posterity to see someday. He really is genuinely a good kid. He desires to do well, is a peacemaker (has his moments of course like we all do), but he is one to look out for others, he's a leader, and a people-pleaser in a good way. He is doing really terrific at school now that his reading has improved with a few extra classes to help aid him. He's loving the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid series" and just finished all of them! No small feet for him. He excels totally in Math (his Dads child) and loves recess and buying lunch. Third grade in Mrs. Gourley's class is treating him well. And I very much enjoy helping with Math once a week in his class. I secretly go (mainly) to see his face light up when I walk in the room...but of course helping other kids is a bonus, too!

At nine years old, he's all about playing outside, doing his homework FIRST thing when he walks in the door from school (without me asking), he loves to play the Wii, ride his bike, jump on the tramp, play with cousins (namely Carter), go to the movies, LEGOs, ice cream, enjoys ALL seafood, food buffets, eating breakfast out, SPICY food that brings tears (that's our boy!), he's beginning to get into clothes (Shawn White line from Target), wears baseball hats with FLAT BILLS ONLY, loves his hoodies, writing in cursive, being creative in drawings and creating maps, he's loving his first MP3 player, and looks for ways to earn money at every turn.

This year he requested a "BYU cake"....so his USU Alumni mother obliged ;)

We had the family over for cake. It's SO nice to be close to more family. We still don't see the McLendons as much as we'd like to, but being only 11 hours from Montana is SO much better than 24.

The clan over for party day

Gift time!
And this is his family party year (ie: in lieu of a big friend party, we do an outing) and we scored (thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Duncombe) some tickets to see our favorite comedian (seriously, Spencer has his bits memorized) BRIAN REAGAN!  It was a fun, snowy outing to Salt Lake City with Aunt Kiki, Uncle Philip, and cousin Mckay. What a memory!

Dinner

Waiting to get our Reagan on!
Such a fun night!

Next up was Scouts where he was SO excited and felt accomplished in moving forward from a Bobcat to a Wolf!

Scouts is so fun!

Words can't express how much we love our Spencer.

He is such a JOY. He's such an easy kid (knocking on wood) and we just love to be around him. It's so fun to see his cute personality grow and develop. He makes jokes and has us laughing a lot of the time, his giggle is contagious and he's just an overall sweetheart of a boy. Oh how we are grateful he's the oldest kid in our family. Such a leader with a gentle heart. We're so grateful to be his parents.

Happy 9th Birthday kid! Now knock this growing up stuff OFF!

I love you buddy.
(I figure I've said that every single day now for nine years)
Lucky me.
